Tenth Anniversary Celebration

Eight days of events, specials sales, deals, and more! Including this year's Spartan athletic apparel sale!

The MSU Surplus Store and Recycling Center's ten-year triumph began September 10, 2009, in our current location. For ten years these doors have been open Monday through Friday and our public drop-off center has collected recyclables 24/7/365 at 468 Green Way. The MSU Board of Trustees approved the plans for a new surplus store and recycling facility in January 2008. The new investment emphasized the reuse and recycling functions that are critical to keeping waste out of the landfill.

The 74,000 square-foot center is the home of the MSU Surplus Store; recycling operations, public recycling drop-off center, offices, and education center; storage areas for compost, construction/demolition waste, and scrap metal. With extensive use of green construction methods of the day, and energy-saving operation features, the facility received the Gold certification from Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. In our history, the MSU Surplus Store and Recycling Center has diverted 120 million pounds of items from the landfill. That is the equivalent of diverting 80,000 Sparty Statues from the landfill.

We invite you to visit us during our upcoming Tenth Anniversary Triumph, September 5 - 13. Our plans include unique sales, tours, and other events designed to engage the MSU Community and our valued customers. Enjoy featured sales in different departments including computers, MSU memorabilia/art, industrial and lab equipment, and finishing the week with deals on furniture, household items, and Spartan UpCycle brand products. MSU Athletics fans will get great deals on a large selection of Spartan athletic apparel on Tuesday, September 10, from 7:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.

MSU Recycling Center celebrates with special events as well. Join us September 5, for a special screening of the documentary film, Salvage, followed by a discussion with the film's director, Amy C. Elliott. Visit the event page for tickets and more information. September 7, tailgate the Zero-Waste way! Before the Spartan Football home game against Western Michigan, stop by the MSU Recycling Zero-Waste Tailgate for and learn how to throw your own Sparty Party with minimal environmental impact.

We cannot wait to celebrate our anniversary with you! As always, follow us on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter for details and updates. You will also find information, as the celebration week approaches, on our website and weekly newsletter.
