The MSU Surplus Store and Recycling Center is currently seeking a Student Recycling Communications Coordinator to promote our recycling and reuse initiatives to the public, as well as oversee the broader communication of solid waste diversion issues.

The Student Recycling Communications Coordinator will develop and implement strategies to utilize social media platforms to actively engage students, faculty and the community. Additionally, this position will create content for department and educational newsletters, as well as draft press releases.

By helping to publicize the activities of the Recycling Center, this impactful position promotes solid waste diversion, while also educating the campus and community on matters related to sustainability.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement strategies to use social media to engage students, faculty and community around issues involving solid waste diversion.
  • Create graphic designs to enhance campaigns using Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign.
  • Monitor social content with various analytic software.
  • Write content for department communication and press releases.
  • Represent the MSU Surplus Store and Recycling Center at communications, educational and industry events.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must have a passion for sustainability and waste diversion.
  • Must be an MSU student currently pursuing an undergraduate degree.
  • Demonstrated professional experience using Facebook and Instagram for communication or promotion.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively through writing.
  • Basic knowledge of graphic design programs such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign.
  • Able to work 15-29 hours on average during the school year.

Hourly pay rate: $10
