Help Wanted! Recycling Collection Driver/Assistant Temporary Position -- POSITION FILLED, THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST


The MSU Surplus Store and Recycling Center is seeking a full-time temporary Collection Driver/Assistant to join our team and assist with the collection of recycling, refuse and surplus materials on campus. Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assists with the distribution and pick up of products and other materials to and from defined campus sites.
  • Loads materials into designated vehicles or on-site locations.
  • Unloads materials/products at the Surplus Store and Recycling Center and place in designated areas.
  • Moves materials/products using both motorized and non-motorized moving equipment.
  • Operates equipment, and other machinery used in department operations.
  • Assists with stocking warehouse locations with replenishment product.
  • Applies general awareness and function specific knowledge of hazardous materials within 90 days of hire.

Related Duties:

  • Assists in performing general cleaning and maintenance duties in Surplus Store and Recycling Center areas such as sweeping, mopping, wiping, etc.
  • Utilizes a computer; basic skills needed.
  • Performs general labor in order to maintain building and surroundings such as shoveling snow, collecting trash, moving materials and equipment.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Casual knowledge of the tools, equipment and processes used in supply chain management functions including warehousing and distribution.
  • Obtain Hazardous Materials certification within 90 days of hire.
  • Possession or attainment of an MSU forklift operator's permit prior to the completion of the applicable probation or trial period.
  • Frequent lifting of 26 to 75 pounds and occasional lifting of over 75 pounds.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Good driving record
  • Chauffeur License or willingness to obtain
  • Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
  • Dependable, work at a fast pace, self-starter and hard-working
  • Interest in waste diversion, recycling and re-use

Compensation:$12.51 (probationary rate), $13.51 after 6 mos.

Employment type:Full time temporary

Hours: Eight hour shifts between the hours of 7:20 a.m. and 3:50 p.m. Monday through Friday. Infrequent weekend or night shifts are possible.Overtime may be available depending on workload.
