Vehicle Sale Process and Procedures

Buyers will participate in a proxy-based auction (very similar to eBay's system) for the right to purchase the vehicle.
Vehicles are available for inspection once the auction for the vehicle has started but not available for test drives.
Customer will need to contact the MSU Surplus Store at 517-355-1723 to obtain access to vehicle for viewing.
Vehicle inspections are offered Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
The highest bidder has two business days to perform any inspections on the vehicle and then provide payment.
If a buyer declines to purchase the vehicle the next highest bidder is given the same opportunity to evaluate and purchase the vehicle at their high bid amount.
Vehicles must be paid for by Certified Check made payable to “Michigan State University” or “MSU” or Cash. Credit card payment will not be accepted.

Auction System

Popcorn Bidding is enabled. This is where the ending time of the auction may change due to bidders placing bids close to the auction ending. This stops last second bids from preventing other bidders to respond and allows everyone an opportunity to bid before the auction closes.
Within the last three (3) minutes of auction end if a bid is placed the auction end time is extended by three (3) minutes until no other bids are placed in that time period and the auction then ends.

Standard Shipping

Buyer is responsible for paying all related shipping and handling charges unless otherwise noted in the item description. If the buyer provides a PO Box, items are mailed through the U.S. Postal Service. Special shipping arrangements such as companies not listed, local pickup and freight services may be available upon request.

Local Pickup

There is no charge for local pickup. Customers will receive notification when their order is ready for pickup. Pickup times are Monday-Friday between 8:00am and 3:30pm and Wednesday between 8:00am and 5:45pm. Customers will have 5 business days to pick up their order.

Freight Shipping

Due to the size and weight of certain items, we offer customer arranged freight shipping. The buyer is responsible for the arrangement and payment of all related shipping and handling charges. Palletizing, crating, shrink wrapping and banding services are available for a fee.
